Are You Tired of Being Sick Yet?

November 12th, 2009

You probably hear almost daily that another one of your friends or co-workers is sick. The media is still pumping up the swine flu even though some medical authorities have said that it has already peaked and has not been the event that it was predicted to be. Personally, I’m tired of hearing about it.

I don’t believe that most people need to get sick, especially not with things like a cold or the flu. None of my immediate family has been sick in over a year, and it isn’t because we live in isolation. I have small kids who go to school every day and are around other sick kids, so they have been “exposed” to whatever is out there, as have my wife and I.

So why don’t we get sick? We do just a few things different than other people. The biggest is that we drink a lot of alkaline water instead of carbonated beverages or coffee.  Other things that we do include taking a good green barley grass supplement, a mushroom based immunity supplement, and make sure that our indoor air is filtered. My kids like taking these supplements too.

Naturally, I can’t guarantee that you will have the same results as we have. It is sure worth giving it a try. Find out more about the water filtration that we use and the  nutritional supplements that we take.

What You Drink Affects Acid Blood

June 29th, 2009

Do you know someone who has problems with acid blood?  What you drink can have a big impact on your blood pH level.

Why should you care about blood pH?  Our bodies are designed to live happy and healthy in a narrow, slightly alkaline pH range.  If we get much outside of that range we start to get sick, develop chronic problems, and will eventually die if we don’t correct it quickly.

Our bodies will do everything in their power to maintain our pH level.  If the blood is acidic, then it uses certain minerals, like calcium to buffer the acid in the blood, and those minerals are stored in the bones.  So if the body becomes too acidic, and there isn’t enough calcium available in our blood, then the calcium has to come from the bones.  I don’t want to mention specific diseases, but you probably know the one that is caused by not enough calcium in the bones.

There are two solutions to acidic blood.  More calcium and less acid.  I recommend both, and that brings us back to what you drink.  Soft drinks, whether you call them soda, pop, or whatever else, are HIGHLY acidic.  So acidic that I have heard that people use them to clean the terminals on car batteries.  So acidic that they are used to scour the floors in warehouses.  So acidic that it takes about 30 glasses of water to neutralize it.  Don’t worry, I know how hard it is to give these up.  My father used to work for Coke and then he worked for Pepsi.

A lot of bottled water is acidic too.  Not as bad as the sodas but not good when you are looking for something to help you get alkaline.  Reverse osmosis, which is used by most purified bottled waters, leaves the water so pure that it then pulls carbon dioxide out of the air, forming carbonic acid in the water.  Go ahead and test it with a test kit if you don’t believe me.  I was surprised the first time I did it.  A good water filter with mineral rocks will clean the water and put enough minerals in it to make it alkaline and taste good.  It will also save you a fortune by not buying soda and bottled water.

Raw veggies will help you alkalize too.

I can also recommend a quality, tested bone density supplement and a calcium supplement.

Alkaline Water vs Distilled Water

March 5th, 2009

I have been taught over the past few years that alkaline water is better for the body than distilled water.  With all of the acid that is in the western diet it has become very important to get more alkaline substances into our bodies whenever possible, and alkaline water is a great way to do that.  The problem with distilled water is that is is completely neutral (7.0 pH) and will actually leech out nutrients from your body.

With that said, this past weekend I heard the best argument for distilled water I have ever heard.  Jeff, a qigong instructor, promotes drinking distilled water and backed up his belief with good reasons.  He acknowledged that distilled water will leech minerals out of your body but he also said that it will draw out toxins as well.  Jeff promotes a very nutritious diet full of fruits and vegetables and very little of the acidic foods that most of us eat.  In that context he believes that the benefits of drinking distilled water (removing toxins) outweighs the drawbacks (removing nutrients).

So, I have changed my stance on the alkaline water vs. distilled water issue.  For most people, alkaline water is still the best.  Most people eat a highly acidic diet full of empty calories.  They can’t afford to lose the nutrients that distilled water takes out and they need the pH balancing that alkaline water can give them.  Distilled water is a good choice for people who already eat a nutritious diet full of alkaline foods.  The distilled water will draw out the toxins that they don’t need and they are taking in so many nutrients that they won’t miss what the distilled water takes.
